Seatoun Handyman

Marine-grade repairs, painting and carpentry for seaside properties.

Handyman Seatoun

Seatoun sits right on the coast, and that proximity sets the maintenance agenda. Salt carries in on every southerly, exterior coatings chalk and fail early, metal fixings corrode, and sand works its way into door and window tracks. Houses here range from original seaside cottages to substantial modern builds, but the exposure treats them all the same way. Our Seatoun handyman team specifies for those conditions as a matter of course.

That means marine-grade fixings, coatings rated for coastal exposure, and sealing details that hold up to wind-driven rain rather than simply looking neat. We cover repairs, painting, renovation and carpentry across Seatoun and the eastern bays, quoting honestly and finishing the job rather than leaving the last ten percent. Book a free on-site quote and we will point out the salt damage you have probably stopped noticing, along with what it will cost.

What we do

Handyman Services in Seatoun

Property Maintenance

Coastal properties need more frequent attention than inland ones, and the jobs are specific: rinsing salt off, replacing corroding fixings, clearing sanded-up tracks, resealing failed joints. We keep on top of it so the sea does not win. A quarterly rinse-down does more good than most owners expect.

House Painting

Coastal exposure destroys under-specified paint systems within a few years. We wash off salt, prepare back to sound substrate and use coatings rated for marine conditions, so a Seatoun repaint lasts as long as it should. Windward elevations are prepared harder than the sheltered ones.

Plastering

Wind-driven rain on the coast finds any gap, and the first sign is usually damp plaster inside. We locate the entry point, repair the cause where we can, then patch and skim to an even finish. Repairs wait until the leak itself has actually been fixed.

Roof Painting

Salt attacks roof fixings and cut edges long before the sheets themselves fail. We clean, treat corrosion, prime and recoat with marine-grade systems, which on the coast is the difference between recoating and replacing. Cut edges and screw heads are treated individually.

Kitchen Renovation

Seatoun kitchens are often oriented toward the sea, and salt reaches further inside than owners expect. We plan the layout around the light and outlook, and specify hardware and finishes that cope with coastal air. Stainless and marine-grade fittings are specified where it matters.

Bathroom Renovation

Coastal humidity keeps bathrooms damp for longer, so ventilation matters as much as waterproofing. We get both right, then tile and fit out, so the room dries properly instead of slowly growing mould. Extraction is ducted outside rather than into the roof space.

Fence and Deck

Salt and wind are brutal on coastal outdoor timber. We build and repair with properly treated timber and stainless fixings, and size framing for exposed southerly loading rather than a standard sheltered-site detail. Post bases are detailed to shed water rather than hold it.

Window Repair

Sand jams tracks, salt seizes hardware and coastal wind exposes every failed seal. We clean and repair tracks, replace corroded catches and stays, re-glaze damaged panes, and reseal against wind-driven rain. Salted-up tracks are cleaned out and lubricated properly.

Water Blasting

Salt film and wind-blown grit dull everything near the coast. We wash cladding, decks, paths and driveways at pressures matched to the surface, clearing the build-up without forcing water into joints. A salt wash before repainting makes the new coating last longer.

Gib Stopping

Coastal renovations and reclads mean new interior linings. We tape, fill and sand every joint and fixing point so the walls finish flat and paint-ready, with no seams telegraphing through later. Work is programmed so the painter can follow straight on.

Paint Stripping

Salt-degraded coatings lose their bond completely, and painting over them just wastes the new paint. We strip back to sound timber or metal, treat what we find, and prepare properly for recoating. Metal gates and railings are stripped back and rust-treated.

Door Repair

Coastal doors swell, stick and seize. We free jammed doors, replace corroded locks and hinges, clear sanded-up slider tracks, and renew weatherstripping so entries close cleanly and keep the weather outside. Sliding doors on the beach side are a regular job.

Door Installation

An exterior door in Seatoun needs marine-grade hardware and a seal that holds under wind pressure. We measure, fit, weatherstrip and adjust so the door works smoothly and does not corrode within a year. Marine-grade hinges and locks are fitted as standard here.

General Carpentry

Decking, balustrades, screens, storage and repairs to salt-damaged trim — our carpenters use materials and fixings chosen for coastal exposure, because standard specifications do not survive long in Seatoun. Outdoor screens and windbreaks are built to suit the site.

Frequently Asked Questions

More often than an inland one. A rinse-down two to four times a year removes the salt quietly working on your paintwork and fixings, and a proper check twice a year catches failures while they are still cheap to fix. Coastal maintenance is cheaper than coastal repair, every single time.
Always. Stainless fixings, marine-rated coatings and hardware chosen for salt exposure. Standard specifications look identical on day one and are visibly failing within a couple of years in Seatoun, which makes them the more expensive option overall. The material cost difference is small; the lifespan difference is not.
Almost certainly. Wind-blown sand fills the track and the rollers wear flat, which is one of the most common jobs we do out here. Cleaning the track and replacing the rollers usually restores it without touching the door itself. Rollers are inexpensive and the whole job is usually under an hour.
Yes. Seatoun, Karaka Bay, Worser Bay, Breaker Bay and Moa Point are all within our normal run, and conditions are much the same across them. Give us a call and we will confirm we can get to you. Grouping jobs across the bays keeps everyone costs down.
On the coast, waiting usually costs more. Once a coating breaks down, salt and moisture reach the substrate and what was a repaint becomes repair work first. We will tell you honestly if you have another season left in it. There is no charge for that assessment.
